Land Investigation for Asbestos or Contamination

A D Scott Asbestos and Think Asbestos have been involved in various projects over the last year including work on a 40 acre site requiring the management of over 120 workers covering various trades.

The work has involved the identification of the asbestos materials and the remediation of the asbestos contaminated ground at a former industrial site under license from the HSE. This entailed the decontamination of the site from visible asbestos at the surface and excavation down to 12 meter in some places as part of the work in removing pipework and foundations to former cooling towers. This project is anticipated to run into several hundred million pounds by the time the site is fully remediated and construction complete.

We have also been involved in various projects where buildings have been demolished with asbestos still in situ,  and the subsequent large scale clean-up operations.

At the beginning of 2014 Ciria published a new detailed document (http://www.ciria.org/ItemDetail?iProductcode=C733) discussing a way forward with asbestos in soils and our current understanding. This document also offers very good practice in assessing asbestos risk in these situations and paves the way forward in offering explanation on how these situations should be managed effectively.
